Eurosafe UK assist buyers (organisations who appoint contractors and designers) in discharging their duties relating to assessing the organisational capability of suppliers they appoint to undertake work on their behalf. Under the CDM Regulations 2015 there is a requirement for anybody who is employing or engaging a supplier to carry out construction work to take reasonable steps to ensure they have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to fulfil the role, or if they are an organisation, the organisational capability.
Eurosafe UK are proud to be an accredited member of the Safety Schemes in Procurement Forum (www.ssip.org.uk). The SSIP Forum was established in 2007 to enable mutual recognition between various their party health and safety assessment schemes. In short this means that if a supplier of services has been successfully assessed by a member of the SSIP Forum then that assessment may be mutually recognised by other members of the Forum. The SSIP Forum has resulted in a reduction in the costs and resources spent by organisations completing different health and safety questionnaires relating to pre-qualification exercises.
SSIP is specifically highlighted as a key route to health and safety prequalification in the 2013 edition of the government backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91 and in the new HSE guidance to CDM 2015.
By successfully meeting the stringent criteria needed to become a member of the SSIP Forum our clients are secure in the knowledge that Eurosafe UK are competent to assist them with discharging their legal duties relating to appointing only competent duty holders.

The Eurosafe UK CDM Competent assessment is an assessment of the organisational capability of suppliers. We ask for organisations to submit various documents for appraisal. Typical examples of areas that are covered include their health and safety policy, risk assessments, training records for operatives and managers, first aid cover, insurances, procedures for appointments of subcontractors, accident records etc. In fact all areas necessary to conform to the Core Criteria. This demonstrates that an organisation can adequately manage health and safety.
Stage 2 assessment is usually carried out by the buyer. The buyer checks that the organisation has the ability, skills and experience to carry out the work they have specifically applied for. An example would be examining method statements, training resources, examples of previous similar work and requesting references. Once the appointed supplier commences work on a site, the buyer should then regularly monitor them to ensure the supplier is carrying out the work safely.
Our scheme is accredited to the Safety Schemes in Procurement standard. This means we have been independently audited to ensure that our team and our procedures are meeting the requirements necessary to protect clients organisations.
An accreditation lasts 12 months. The annual renewal will be automatically sent to the supplier who will have to undertake the same exercise in order to take into account changes to their organisation such as different personnel, training, new legislation etc.
Each supplier who has been successfuly assessed by CDM Competent Will receive a certificate and electronic Eurosafe UK CDM Competent Logo. the Supplier will also appear on the SSIP Portal. For an additioanl cost suppliers can also purchase stickers for their transport, site boards etc.
As construction safety consultants Eurosafe offer an optional national site safety inspection service whereby we make unannounced visits to our clients’ construction sites. During the inspection we will produce a written report detailing the condition of the site, including adherence to current health and safety legislation. A report will be issued to our clients and also the supplier. Before leaving site we will speak to the site manager and work with them to ensure that they understand the findings of the inspection and the corrective measures necessary to improve the site conditions. Note: SSIP scheme does not currently cover site based assessments.
